Emelia Jurassic Park Trilogy Already Leaving Netflix Next Month

The Jurassic Park trilogy - Jurassic Park, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and Jurassic Park III - will leave Netflix on September 30th.

The original Jurassic Park movie, and its two direct sequels, are leaving Netflix at the end of September. The trilogy only arrived on the streaming service at the beginning of August, so the trilogy’s residency at Netflix will be short lived. Although Netflix regularly adds and removes titles from its streaming library, they tend to be available longer than a mere two months.

Jurassic Park , Steven Spielberg’s 1993 blockbuster movie, was based on Michael Crichton’s 1990 science fiction novel about a modern-day theme park that showcased genetically engineered dinosaurs. Considering many of these dinosaurs were predators of man, chaos ensued. Jurassic Park was a hit at the box office and is considered a quotable modern classic, thus it spawned two sequels. First was an adaptation of Crichton’s second novel The Lost World: Jurassic Park (1997), and then Jurassic Park III (2001), which pieced together portions of the story from the first two novels that never made it to the screen. Fan favorite stars Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill returned for the sequels, though in different installments.

Now, in revealing all the titles leaving in September, Netflix has confirmed all three movies will leave Sept. 30. According to the recently released list of movies coming and going, it includes all three Jurassic Park movies in the exit section. The original trilogy films have been available on streaming for many years now, previously they were on NBC’s Peacock service that is owned by Universal, the films’ distributor. It is not known if the Jurassic Park movies will return to Peacock or a different streaming service in the future.

What hasn’t been available are the most recent movies in the franchise, Jurassic World (2015) and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (2018). These films continued the story laid out in the original movie by fast forwarding to the future where the dinosaur park had reopened, presumably under safer conditions. Actors Bryce Dallas Howard and Chris Pratt led the cast, and the movies advanced the box office success of their predecessors. However, neither film is currently available to stream, despite spending a limited time on HBO’s service. The third movie in this recent trilogy, Jurassic World: Dominion is set to premiere in 2021.

Jurassic Park and its recent sequels have dominated the summer box office in their respective years. The film is also considered the best adaptation of a Michael Crichton novel. If Universal hopes to have a big splash with Dominion next year, it stands to reason that all five films would be available via streaming to keep the fan base excited for another return to the dinosaur universe. Here’s hoping the Jurassic Park films make a streaming re-appearance, even if not on Netflix.
